Pronouns: she/her

Laura is passionate about uplifting blak, brown and queer voices - whether in the newsroom or community. She is dedicated to reporting on climate change, racial justice and gender equality.

Laura Murphy-Oates is a Ngiyampaa Wailwan woman from New South Wales. She has a decade of experience working as a journalist across TV, radio and podcasting. Most recently, she was the founding host and executive producer of Guardian Australia’s daily news podcast 'Full Story'. She previously worked for current affairs show 'The Feed', on SBS Viceland and on NITV news.

I aspire to fully understand how the media can be used to pursue justice for blak communities on our own terms.

Social change work

For most of her career, Laura’s social change drive has been channelled into her journalism work - reporting on systemic racism in our health systems, sporting codes and workplaces around Australia. Laura has also undertaken a year-long Our Watch fellowship, which seeks to improve reporting on violence against women.
