Professor Peter Anderson

2019 Cohort

Peter is developing dynamic approaches to embedding First Nation perspectives into western educational systems through professional development capacity building, using digital pedagogies and curriculum frameworks.

Peter is a Walpiri and Murinpatha First Nations man, currently based in Brisbane where he is Executive Director and Professor of Education at the Carumba Institute, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Here he is working to create social change through curriculum-based initiatives that focus on Indigenous Rights and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

We are in dire need to enhance institutions’ capacity to proactively respond to professional development needs in areas such as initial teacher education, medicine, nursing, and allied health. Indigenous educational leadership in the academy, and other related education endeavors, will improve the health and well-being of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Social change work

Peter has scaled up his social change project into an online and face-to-face academic professional development module. The program builds the capacity of Queensland University of Technology staff to integrate Indigenous perspectives into their practice and has so far been taken up by nearly 600 colleagues across all disciplines and fields.
