Pronouns: she/her

Through ethical contention, Alicia is building a collective that envisions an Indigenous future and demands a shift in the criteria of knowledge, experience, power and expertise in healthcare.

Alicia is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman who was born and raised on the mainland in South-East Queensland. Alicia is an experienced health systems leader who is committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities' health justice and self-determination and recognition of the critical role of Indigenous knowledges in health system reform. She co-chairs the Queensland Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Clinical Network, where she provides statewide leadership and direction to address systemic racism, improve institutional cultural safety and advocates for cultural governance within clinical and corporate governance of health systems.

Alicia has worked within the health sector for over twenty years in a variety of roles, from an aged care Assistant-in-Nursing to Registered Nurse in paediatrics and finally completing medicine to become an obstetrician and gynaecologist, with a subspeciality in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology. Alicia practices person-centered care where she aims to be the technical assistant for her patients’ own empowerment and wellbeing. Recognising early on in her medical career the need for transformational reform of settler-colonial health systems, Alicia completed a Master of Public Health and Master of Health Management.

For true healthcare reform, First Nations presence is required, not just on the frontline of health services, but firmly embedded throughout the system.

Social change work

With an impending global healthcare crisis, Alicia's social change project responds to the call from community for an organisation that not only amplifies the vital role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health consumers, clinicians and communities have to play in health systems reform, but also provides a community with training and support.
